Surrey loft conversion looks like it’s always been there.

A family living in Bramley, Surrey already had a loft conversion, but felt that it had not really been done very well and so wanted the experts at Econoloft to see how it could be improved.

“We have three daughters and two of them shared a bedroom and we felt it was time we offered them a room each, explained mum Anne-Marie.  “The obvious solution was to review the existing loft conversion to make it habitable for our eldest daughter.”

To make the best use of the space available Econoloft decided to move the existing staircase and build a mini dormer in the attic space.  This meant moving one of the walls in an existing bedroom to create the rooms the family needed.  In addition, extra insulation was required around the dormer, stud walls were built and two additional Velux windows were added.

“We don’t live in a conservation area but there is no precedent for what we were having done and so we did have to work with the local council,” said Anne-Marie.  “However, Econoloft took care of all the necessary paperwork for us and after making some adaptions to our original plans, they were accepted.”

The Econoloft loft conversion has made our property a desirable family home.

“Econoloft did such a great job inside and out,” said Anne-Marie.  “Their new staircase looks much nicer than the previous one and it blends in perfectly with the original.  Outside, the building work looks like it has always been a part of the house and blends seamlessly to the property.  We were really impressed with how the company was able to make best use of the space available, not just in the loft but in the other rooms where adaptation was needed.”

Loft conversion interiors inspired by travel.

The loft conversion interior has been inspired by Anne-Marie’s work in the Alps.  The décor is white and neutral to ensure the best use of natural light and the tongue and groove doors provide a chalet feel.  A faux fur throw on the bed adds a cosy touch and the bedside tables pay homage to nature.

“The bedside tables come from birch which is a great bark to use for furniture,” explains Anne-Marie.  “Essentially, the wood is chopped and then left to dry out before being sanded to a smooth surface and that’s it - a lovely, natural bed side table.”

The unique lamps were inspired by family holidays in Spain and were purchased online and the shower room offers a contemporary suite in the same neutral colour palette.

Although the couple have not had the property valued they are confident that the loft conversion has at least paid for itself and now that everyone has the space they need, they don’t intend to move any time soon.
