04 Mar Paint trends for 2013
We recently wrote a blog post with tips and advice for painting your home. Today we’re taking that one step further and looking at the paint trends for 2013.
Spring has finally made a welcome entrance, making it the perfect time to give your home a bit of a freshen up.
1. Layers add depth to a room
We’re used to painting a room a single shade, but layering shades of colour on different walls will add depth and warmth to your room.
Draw inspiration from pippajamesoninteriors.co.uk and add accents of colour to your rooms for an up-to-date look. We love the way mint green has been contrasted with aubergine and teal blue in this home office – it makes the room look bigger and it has a crisp, clean finish.
2. Oh I do like to be beside the seaside…
A coastal colour palette combines natural pastel shades to create a calming influence upon a room.
Benjaminmoore.com has chosen lemon sorbet as the colour of the year and it works great in this office to instil a calming sense of relaxing on the beach. Light-hearted pastel shades invoke a sense of optimism, which makes it the ideal colour for spring.
3. Add a splash of colour
Neutrals such as soft greys and muted pinks can do wonders for creating a refreshing look in a room, but this year the trend is to go one step further and add a splash of colour in an unexpected place, like the ceiling, inside a bookcase, or on a few cupboards.
Check out these purple painted kitchen cupboards, seen on styleathome.com. They give the room an instant and dramatic update, whilst complementing the existing colour scheme.
Try any of the above suggestions in your home today to give it an instant update that’s bang on trend.
Alternatively, revamp your unused loft and turn it into an everyday space with the help of Econoloft.
