L-SHAPED LOFT CONVERSION IN OAKLEIGH ROAD, BARNET, NORTH LONDON
A mid-terrace L-shaped dormer conversion in Barnet creates the perfect teen living space.
These clients in Barnet weren't sure if a loft conversion would be right for them. Not only did they live in a mid-terrace home, but it extended at the back, making the shape awkward for installing a dormer. Our experts explained that Econoloft custom fit all our loft conversions, and that an L-shaped dormer could be fit to the exact specifications of their roof.
For this loft conversion, the clients chose to move their teenager upstairs, giving them more space and independence. A design was made that would give lots of room to sleep, study, and hang out with friends. Two Velux windows were installed in the roof at the front of the house, letting in fresh air and natural light. The dormer extended out the back, in the L-shape it is named for, providing two distinct areas for larger windows.
A bedroom was fitted into the longer section of the L, with a double bed, and space for a few chairs for friends. A floor-to-ceiling Velux window looks out onto the back garden. Our clients had a flair for design, and opted for vertical radiators in a bold shade of red, truly showcasing their creativity.
They also chose to keep the loft open-plan, with the bedroom flowing out into a study and entertainment area at the front of the house. Because of the already quirky design of their home, a small step up was needed to accommodate this extra space, but this was no obstacle for our expert engineers. Veneer flooring was used throughout the loft, a stylish option that is easy for messy teenagers to clean up.
The smaller part of the L was sectioned off into a separate room, which proved to be the perfect place for a bathroom. Once again, the client chose to showcase their creativity with bold and glossy grey tiling, accented with a metallic red tile backsplash that matched the radiators in the rest of the loft. The bathroom consisted of a shower, toilet and sink, with a stylish round mirror completing the facilities, giving this teen a great place to get refreshed and ready for the day.
