Dormer Loft Conversion

Dormer Loft Conversion

A very common type of loft conversion, the dormer loft essentially involves an extension from the existing roof. Typically, the structure is changed to add a large flat roof extending out from the plane of the sloping roof. There are two key reasons why dormer loft conversions are so popular – firstly, because they’re relatively inexpensive, and secondly, because they provide generous amounts of space by creating additional headroom.

Flat-roofed dormers in particular can help to add a great deal of floor space to your converted loft space. The other main benefits of dormer loft conversions include additional headroom, flat ceilings and straight walls. Although most dormer conversions have straight, flat roofs, it is possible to have a gable-fronted or hipped-roof dormer loft. However, these may not provide as much interior space.

What’s more, dormer lofts can be put to a range of different uses – whether as a playroom for the kids, a study or office space, an additional bedroom or a dedicated home entertainment room. At Econoloft, we’ll discuss your plans for your loft conversion and help turn them into reality.

Dormer loft conversions are a feasible option for a wide variety of different types of domestic property – including semi-detached houses and detached houses alike. In most cases, dormer lofts do not require planning permission as they fall under permitted development status. There are, however, certain circumstances under which planning permission may be required for a dormer conversion. The Econoloft team is on hand to help guide you through the planning and regulatory process.

There are, of course, different types of dormer for different types of property – at Econoloft, we’re well aware that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for loft conversions. Our experts will discuss your needs with you in depth, helping you to devise a plan which works best for you.
